Fig rust caused by Phakopsora nishidana in South Africa

چکیده

Fig rust, caused by Cerotelium fici, was first recorded in South Africa 1927. Recent observations have revealed high incidence of rust and untimely defoliation fig trees (Ficus carica) residential gardens commercial orchards. Using phylogenetic analysis, the causal organism a isolate (PREM63073) collected 2020 confirmed as Phakopsora nishidana. Inoculation microscope studies showed that mulberry plants were immune to P. nishidana PREM63073. Infection leaves occurred through stomata on abaxial leaf surfaces. Very long germ tubes observed for nishidana, often with no clear contact surfaces an apparent lack directional growth towards stomata. Inoculated from 15 cultivars varied their severity infection, whereas fruit cultivar Kadota developed reddish-brown blemishes without sporulation. Currently, C. fici are recognised occurring F. carica Africa. This suggests need resolve worldwide distribution identity species involved.

Wheat leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina.

UNLABELLED Leaf rust, caused by Puccinia triticina, is the most common rust disease of wheat. The fungus is an obligate parasite capable of producing infectious urediniospores as long as infected leaf tissue remains alive. Urediniospores can be wind-disseminated and infect host plants hundreds of kilometres from their source plant, which can result in wheat leaf rust epidemics on a continental ...

New soybean (Glycine max Fabales, Fabaceae) sources of qualitative genetic resistance to Asian soybean rust caused by Phakopsora pachyrhizi (Uredinales, Phakopsoraceae)

Asian soybean rust (ASR), caused by the phytopathogenic fungi Phakopsora pachyrhizi, has caused large reductions in soybean (Glycine max) yield in most locations in Brazil where it has occurred since it was first reported in May 2001. Primary efforts to combat the disease involve the development of resistant cultivars, and four dominant major genes (Rpp1, Rpp2, Rpp3 and Rpp4) controlling resist...

Correlations between traits in soybean (Glycine max L.) naturally infected with Asian rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi).

Soybean (Glycine max L.)-breeding programs aim to develop cultivars with high grain yields and high tolerance to Asian soybean rust (Phakopsora pachyrhizi). Considering that the traits targeted for breeding are mainly quantitative in nature, knowledge of associations between traits allows the breeder to formulate indirect selection strategies. In this study, we investigated phenotypic, genotypi...

The Effect of South African Geopolitical Position in the Development of Cinema in South Africa

This paper will discuss about the role of the geopolitical location of South Africa in the development of movie and the cinema industry in this country. Despite of bringing ci-nema to South Africa by white Europeans, but the development of this phenomenon is mostly due to the geopolitical position of this country. It is interesting to know that ci-nema reached Africa in much the same time as it...

The non-fatal disease burden caused by type 2 diabetes in South Africa, 2009

BACKGROUND Increasing urbanisation and rising unhealthy lifestyle risk factors are contributing to a growing diabetes epidemic in South Africa. In 2000, a study estimated diabetes prevalence to be 5.5% in those aged over 30. Accurate, up-to-date information on the epidemiology and burden of disease due to diabetes and its sequelae is essential in the planning of health services for diabetes man...
